RAVENSWOOD ALPACAS - Purely Black Huacaya
We are a small alpaca stud located in the beautiful Mudgee district specialising in the breeding of Black Huacaya. Our aim is to produce black alpacas with fine, dense fleece and perfect conformation using the best genetics we can get our hands on!

We had been attracted to these fascinating animals for some time before purchasing our first animals in 2005. We started out with just one female and her male cria, and thus began our steep learning curve.

Knowing that we are limited in relation to stock numbers with our 25 acres led us to make a decision to specalise in one colour, and we ultimately decided on the challenge of beautiful Black.

Over the last couple of years we have ventured into the show ring, with impressive and encouraging results, and this adds another enjoyable dimension to our "hobby"

Alpacas are such a dream to farm, they are gentle, curious and intelligent, and with padded feet they are kind to the environment. Alpacas don't challenge fences, and are easy to contain. Each year we make temporary runs from paddock to shed for shearing, and this is often done with coloured plastic ribbons and a few star pickets. Some of our animals are easily lead on a halter by our children, aged 5 and 3.

Here at Ravenswood Alpacas, we test every animal's fleece annually. Each animal's histogram is available, and in some cases the the previous years' fleece is also available for your inspection. Please dont hesitate to contact us with your requirements.

Due to shearing not being done untill later in the month, we decided to shear our potential show team earlier, with the aim of ensuring that our animals have the required fleece length by showtime. Our little grey Girl Nevaeh really impressed us!
